All right troops. Just for fun we got a chunk of Guanacaste wood from somewhere. Too lazy to look it up but with its honey color and lively sound we made this baby with some frills. Back binding and center strip.

Goofing off with mismatched woods that have been hanging around the shop for a couple decades! Offering these babies at a below $500. If you want the 'folk art' style finish, you're gonna have to cough up the extra cash. Hey, we're lazy. As a member of our “primitive” series of mando’s, there may be some sanding scratches or small dings we don’t take out to keep the cost down. Fretboards and headstock veneers are made from whatever woods we have available. No binding, no brace carving.

These babies will be just as solid and just as playable as our standard built mandolins. And…………we’re dumb enough to make them here in Missouri.

As all of us have fallen into the money downsizing, I am introducing a much less expensive version of all of our mandolin and mandolas. I'm calling these the 'PRIMITIVE' mandolin. Whatever our price is on our standard models, these will be $200 less*. What's the difference? No brace carving. No binding. Izombe fretboard (much less expensive wood but still plenty hard) and no attention to sanding scratches or finish work. All of that is the time consuming processes so eliminating them reduces the cost considerably.

So if you have been wanting a Big Muddy but are short on cash, this is a great way to save and still own a solid, great sounding mandolin from us.

*The MW-0 will be $150 less than normal.

We are using 'local' walnut, as it is what Missouri is somewhat famous for. These wood combinations give a nice 'bright' sound. Good for 'cutting thru' in those jam sessions while not 'taking your head off' with too much cut.

All 'W' (wide neck) series models have Ebony or African Blackwood fretboard and bridge. The wide neck is 1 - 1/4″ at the nut. For big, full fingered peeps or guitar players who want a bit more room on a mando.

Maple will give you..........uh.....how do I describe this?..... a full, chunky sound. The 'almost' bluegrass tone that maple gives. We are not a traditional bluegrass mandolin so if you need that 'sound' get a carved top mando. They can get pretty loud as they mature.

Rosewood gives a really full and rich sound. Smooth and will make your neighbors mad if you're pushing it after hours.

Ovangkol mando with a Red Spruce top. Royal Blackwood fretboard and bridge.

Ovangkol is an African relative of rosewood, a great sounding wood that shares many of rosewood's tonal properties, with a slightly fuller mid-range and a top end that's not quite as bright as maple.

With the mahogany top, this mando gives a cool and subtle 'earthy and wooden' sound. Very pleasing and does grow in volume as the years progress. I (and a couple employees) heard one that was four years old and made me go 'wow'. Many of the Celtic players have chosen this model as the 'sound of choice'.
